This report assesses the dynamics of Tuscan exports since the 2000s in the face of the rising fragmentation of production in global value chains and at the dawn of the fourth industrial revolution. Advances in information and communication technologies (ICT) allowed a deep geographic reconfiguration of production processes, threatening the very existence of nineteenth century industrial districts and spurring an uneven within-country income distribution, especially in western economies.
