The volume, edited by Claudio Lucifora and Nicola Sciclone, brings together contributions from the IRPET – Age-It seminar held on November 17, 2025<\/a>, on demographic transition in Tuscany: declining birth rates, aging populations, and challenges for welfare and the economy, based on data and analysis.<\/p>\n\n

The demographic transition in Tuscany\u2014between declining birth rates, aging, and a reduction in the working-age population\u2014is profoundly reshaping the economy, employment, and welfare. This volume offers an integrated overview of the main economic and social consequences of the demographic trajectory: from the reasons for (non) parenthood and the gap between desired and actual children, to the link between income, employment, and fertility and the economic penalty that affects mothers; from the role of early childhood services and support tools to the opportunities and critical issues of the \u2018silver economy\u2019 and the macroeconomic effects of changes in consumption; to the challenges of non-self-sufficiency and the risk of a mismatch between labor supply and demand in different areas. A contribution based on original data and analysis, designed to guide public choices capable of supporting families, growth, and social cohesion.<\/p>\n\n
