Transitions underway: demographics, digital technology, and ecology amid challenges and opportunities

Demographic trends and digital and ecological transition processes pose new challenges for the economic, social, and territorial systems of the country and our region. To explore these issues in greater depth, IRPET will organize three seminars in the coming months at the turn of the new year, in which the Institute’s analyses will be discussed with representatives from the worlds of research, institutions, and regional government.

Seminar I: The economic and social implications of demographic transition in Tuscany

The first event, organized in collaboration with Age-IT (Ageing Well in an Ageing Society), will be held in Florence on November 17, 2025, at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati. The initiative will address the challenges posed by demographic change from a multidisciplinary perspective, with a particular focus on the situation in Tuscany. The aging population and declining birth rate are profoundly redefining economic, social, and territorial balances, with significant repercussions on the labor market, welfare systems, and growth prospects. Through the contributions of experts, researchers, and representatives of institutions, the meeting will offer food for thought and useful insights to guide public policies towards a development model capable of addressing demographic challenges and transforming them into opportunities for the future.
