Retail trade and tourist services in Livorno

By C. Agnoletti, E. Conti and V. Patacchini

The research was conducted by Chiara Agnoletti and Valentina Patacchini (chapter 1) and Enrico Conti (chapter 2), and relates to the Productive Sectors and Businesses Area coordinated by Simone Bertini.

This report aims to provide an overview of the size and structural evolution of the retail and tourism services sector in the municipality of Livorno. These are particularly important economic sectors, which together account for around 28% of local businesses and 25% of total employment in the city, a percentage that is 7 points higher than the average for Tuscany as a whole.

The report consists of two parts, the first concerning the structural and evolutionary analysis of the fixed-location retail sector, and the second concerning the tourism services sector and the demand for these services from visitor flows to Livorno.
