Position Paper 44/2025 by S. Duranti, N. Faraoni and V. Patacchini
The note analyzes the development and characteristics of digital professions in Tuscany, focusing in particular on employment dynamics, graduate careers, and demand from businesses. The data show significant growth in digital employment over the last decade, although it still lags behind the European average. Digital professions are characterized by strong polarization: on the one hand, there is an increasing demand for highly qualified professionals (ICT professionals), while on the other hand, there is less room for more technical roles. The careers of digital graduates are characterized by greater stability and higher qualifications than others, but also by greater interregional mobility, which highlights Tuscany’s difficulties in retaining talent trained in this sector. Companies that hire digital profiles, concentrated in the ICT sector but also present in traditional sectors, represent a strategic component of the regional productive fabric.
