In 2024, world trade showed signs of recovery compared to the previous year, with an overall increase in international trade (+2.4%). However, the International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Outlook estimates were revised downward during the year (from +2.8% in April to +2.4% in October), reflecting the geopolitical uncertainties that gradually intensified during the year and the fluctuations observed in emerging markets.
In light of these developments in the international context, national exports of goods suffered a setback in 2024, following the contraction recorded in some of the main exporting regions, particularly Piedmont, Veneto, and Emilia-Romagna.
Tuscany was an exception, with foreign sales in the region up 13.8% compared to 2023, and quarterly growth accelerating in the fourth quarter of 2024, which closed with an increase of 18.7%.
