Short term Economic Note 38/2025 by S. Turchetti
Despite geopolitical uncertainties, due both to the many international crisis areas around the world and to the announcement of protectionist measures by the new US administration, international trade showed signs of recovery in 2024. In particular, Tuscany performed better than other regions, ending the year on a positive note.
The trend in trade in agri-food products in Tuscany was no exception, growing more than in the rest of Italy and recording positive performance for the second year in a row: compared to national growth of 7.8%, Tuscan exports increased by 16.1%. On the other hand, direct imports also grew more than elsewhere (+13.2%). The value of foreign sales of Tuscan agricultural products was over €471 million, and growth compared to 2023 was in line with the national average (+5.6%). As for food and beverages, however, Tuscany’s results were better than the rest of Italy: compared to 2023, sales in the two sectors grew by 23.7% and 8.6% respectively, totaling €2,196.1 million and €1,297.5 million respectively.
