The Mobility Manager and the governance of mobility

OUTLOOK FOR TUSCANY This study was edited by Massimiliano Petri (Tages) for IRPET, under the supervision of Patrizia Lattarulo, coordinator of the Public Economy and Territory Research Area. At the international level, the first steps towards solving environmental problems were taken in 1992. The Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro from 3 to 14 June 1992, was the first world conference of heads of state on the environment. It was an unprecedented event also in terms of media impact and consequent political and development choices. 172 governments and 108 heads of state or government, 2,400 representatives of non-governmental organizations participated. The topics that were covered are: – the systematic examination of production patterns – in particular to limit the production of toxins, such as lead in diesel or poisonous waste; – alternative energy resources to replace the abuse of fossil fuels believed to be responsible for global climate change; – a framework on public transport systems with the aim of reducing vehicle emissions, road congestion in large cities and health problems caused by smog; – the growing scarcity of water. In the following years, every action relating to sustainable mobility has seen the objectives outlined in this Summit as a reference. (…)
