Despite a climate of profound international uncertainty, Tuscany’s exports, excluding precious metals, grew by 8.2% in the first half of 2025, outperforming other major regions.

However, this result is determined by the success of pharmaceutical products, whose foreign sales almost doubled in value in the first half of the year. In the first half of 2025, pharmaceutical products accounted for over 30% of products exported by the Tuscan production system.

On the other hand, most production sectors saw negative growth, reflecting the instability of trade policies and the uncertainty that characterizes the global geopolitical and economic scenario. Only foreign sales of boats bucked the trend, rising by 17.1%.

Signs of a reversal from the previous decline came in the second quarter from the fashion sector which, while maintaining a negative trend for the half-year, saw several specializations such as clothing and, above all, footwear, return to positive territory.

In terms of destination areas, the European Union saw strong growth, thanks in particular to the performance of pharmaceutical products in certain specific markets. Sales to the United States and the NAFTA area in general remained stable in the first six months of the year.

At the provincial level, regional export growth was concentrated solely in the province of Florence, where gains were made in the regional pharmaceutical industry.
