The 2025 Agricultural Year in Tuscany

Economic Report No. 43/2026, edited by S. Turchetti

After a very positive year for Italian and Tuscan agriculture, 2025 began with more modest growth trends—albeit varying by sector—driven almost entirely by a resurgence in price increases. In particular, the livestock sector benefited the most, although the increase helped maintain profitability across the entire sector, despite a general decline in production volumes.

In terms of weather conditions for the year, 2025 was the fourth-warmest year in Italy since 1800 and in Tuscany since 1955, with an average annual temperature anomaly exceeding 1°C. In particular, this warmth was concentrated mainly in the first part of the year, with the exception of May, potentially affecting plant maturation times, irrigation needs, and the spread of pests. The combination of above-average rainfall in nearly every month of the year may, on the one hand, have offset the water stress caused by the abnormal heat, but, on the other hand, may have created an ideal environment for the spread of pests.

In 2025, agricultural production in Tuscany at current prices was generally in line with the national figure, rising by 3.1% compared with a national increase of 3.9%. In real terms, however, there was a slight decline (-0.7%), while the Italian figure remained essentially stable.
