Edited by F. Alberti (University of Florence) and A. Pedrazzoli (Transportation Analyst)
The study is part of the joint activities of IRPET and the Region of Tuscany for the year 2024 and is carried out in technical assistance to the ERDF Managing Authority (Activity no. 3.2024). The research was conducted by Francesco Alberti (Associate Professor of Urban Planning, University of Florence) and Alessandro Pedrazzoli (Transport Analyst) for the IRPET Public Economics and Infrastructure Research Area coordinated by Patrizia Lattarulo. Leonardo Piccini and Giuseppe Francesco Gori of IRPET participated in the working group.
The subject of this report is the extension of line T2 of the Florence Tramway System from its current terminus near the Amerigo Vespucci airport passenger terminal in the municipality of Florence (Peretola Aeroporto stop) to Piazza Spartaco Lavagnini in the town center of Sesto Fiorentino (Spartaco Lavagnini stop).
The study contributes to the ex-ante evaluation of the line project (identified in administrative documents and technical documentation as “line 2.2”) with reference to the documents and annexes of the Technical and Economic Feasibility Study (PFTE) submitted by the temporary consortium of companies appointed by the Municipality of Florence (as the contracting authority representing all the local authorities involved in the construction of the Tramway System) in April 2024. The documentation under study is a second version of the PFTE, substantially different from a first version already approved, dating back to December 2020. The changes made concern the route of the line itself, in response to requests made by the public entities participating in the technical committee responsible for overseeing the extension of the network, established under the Program Agreement of April 24, 2014, between the Region of Tuscany and the Municipalities of Florence, Campi Bisenzio, Sesto Fiorentino, and Bagno a Ripoli.
