Tuscany’s Smart Specialization Strategy (S3) aims to promote sustainable development dynamics in response to the challenges posed by major demographic, technological, and environmental transitions and by Agenda 2030. The report is one of Irpet’s evaluative contributions for 2024 to Tuscany’s S3 2021-2027. With regard to demographic transition, particular attention will be paid to the impact of demographic trends on the availability of labor at the local level. With regard to digital transition, the report will examine Tuscany’s position in terms of innovation within the national context and reconstruct the level of digitization penetration among businesses based on new ISTAT data. Finally, with regard to the environmental transition, the characteristics of the regional energy consumption and production system will be examined, with a focus on the needs of the production system and the impact in terms of climate-changing gas emissions.
